Instructional Consultant FAQ

When will I receive my honorarium check?

Honorariums are paid net 30 days from the time the invoice arrives in the office.  You must send an invoice in order to receive your check.

How many teachers can I expect to work with this year?

The number of teachers assigned to each consultant varies from year to year because the number and geographical distribution of teachers varies from year to year.  If you are willing to work with multiple teachers simultaneously and/or are willing to travel outside of your region, please be sure that Andrea DeMeo is aware of this.

Does my teacher HAVE to have more than one piece of evidence for every indicator?

No.  The regulations governing the PRPIL program state that at least one piece of strong evidence must be submitted for each indicator and sub-indicator.  However, we recommend submitting 2-3 pieces of evidence whenever possible and practical.  This helps to prevent requests for additional evidence from the Panel that reviews all portfolios.

Will I be notified if additional evidence is needed after a portfolio has been submitted for review?

Yes.  When additional evidence is requested by the Panel, Andrea emails both the teacher and Instructional Consultant with the request.

Does the PPA form belong in the portfolio?

A copy of the PPA form should be included in the portfolio, with the pages listing evidence at the beginning of the appropriate sections.  The original signed PPA form should be mailed to our office by you along with copies of your observation reports and an invoice for your work.

Where do I send the PPA paperwork?

Please send all paperwork to:

Class Measures

How should my teacher's portfolio get to your office?

It is the teacher's responsibility to get his/her portfolio to our office.  They can drop it off during posted business hours or mail it.  You may choose to offer to take responsibility for delivering the portfolio, but you have no obligation to do so.  It is recommended that all visitors call the office before coming to be sure our schedule has not changed.

How will the portfolio be returned to the teacher?

Beginning with the 2009-2010 cohort, Class Measures will be mailing portfolios back to all teachers at no additional cost.  Alternatively, teachers may choose to pick up their portfolio at our office during posted business hours.  It is recommended that all visitors call the office before coming to be sure our schedule has not changed.

How do I rate evidence on the PPA forms?

You are responsible for rating the evidence for each indicator and sub-indicator separately.  In addition, you must give an overall rating for each of the five standards with a short narrative explanation of the rating, and a longer narrative at the end of the document.  All ratings should be a 1, 2, or 3 as described on the PPA form.  If you believe that any part of the portfolio deserves a 1 (does not meets the standard) and you are unable to convince the teacher to strengthen the evidence provided, please contact Andrea DeMeo to discuss the situation.

What should I do if a teacher is not responding to my attempts to contact him/her?

In the rare occurrences that this should happen, please contact Andrea so our office staff can attempt to contact the teacher and find out the details of the situation.

How often do I need to attend an IC training?

After your initial training when you first become an Instructional Consultant, you are required to attend a refresher training every 2-3 years.  You will be notified of upcoming training dates and are expected to RSVP if you plan to attend.

I have a friend who would like to be an Instructional Consultant.  Are you accepting applications for additional ICs?

Yes!  We are especially interested in consultants who live in the western part of the state.  However, we are accepting applications from consultants in all areas.  Application materials are available on our website.

I really enjoy working as an Instructional Consultant for Class Measures.  Are there opportunities to do additional work with the company?

There are occasional opportunities to do additional work with the PRPIL program or other aspects of Class Measures work.  If you are interested and/or have a particular area of specialty, please let Andrea know and we will keep you in mind when these opportunities occur.
