Fall River Middle/Secondary Professional program

An Alternative Route to Professional Teacher Licensure:

In March 2006, Class Measures was approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to provide a District-Based Professional Licensure Program for middle and secondary math and biology teachers in collaboration with the Fall River Public Schools and UMASS Dartmouth. This program will be available to the teachers in the Fall River Public Schools and surrounding school systems.

Who is Eligible?

Only those teachers who have fulfilled the following requirements are eligible to be enrolled in the program. The candidate must:

Hold a Massachusetts middle or secondary math or science initial license.
Have at least one year of full time employment teaching and be teaching while enrolled.
Be recommended by the principal.

What needs to be done to enroll?

As part of the application process, the candidate must submit:

A resume.
A copy of certification
Documentation of professional development training and/or transcript (s)-at least 60 professional development hours in subject content and 60 professional development hours in pedagogy (art of teaching). One graduate course is 67.5 hours.
A current teacher evaluation
A Statement of Philosophy of Education.

The cost of the program is $2000 which does not include in the coursework.

The program requirements are :

At least 2 graduate courses through UMASS Dartmouth that have been approved for advanced subject content through the DOE (register through UMASS Dartmouth).
Mentoring course through Desmarais Consulting.
Submission of two video-taped segments of your classroom teaching with a reflective paper (one at the beginning and one at the end of the program).
Create a portfolio.
