Elementary Professional Licensure

An Alternative Route to Professional Teacher Licensure for Elementary Teachers:

Class Measures has contracted with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to provide an Elementary District-Based Professional Licensure Program in collaboration with Lynn Public Schools and Gordon College.  It is available to elementary teachers in the Lynn Public Schools and surrounding school systems. 

Who is Eligible?

Only those teachers who have fulfilled the following requirements are eligible to be enrolled in the program. The candidate must:

  1. Hold a Massachusetts Elementary Initial license  (Grades 1-6).
  2. Have at least two years of employment teaching and be teaching while enrolled.
  3. Be recommended by the principal of each school where you taught under the initial license (Please provide letter of support confirming years of employment).
What needs to be done to enroll?
As part of the application process, the candidate must submit:
  1. A resume.
  2. A copy of certification.
  3. Documentation of professional development training and/or transcript(s)-at least 60 PDPs in subject content and 60 PDPs in pedagogy (art of teaching)
  4. Documentation of one-year Mentor induction program.
  5. A current teacher evaluation.
  6. Statement of Philosophy of Education.
  7. A check made out to Class Measures in the amount of $300.

The program will be delivered through the Professional Licensure Coach who will work closely with the candidate throughout the year process. 

The candidates selected to enroll in the program must complete the following requirements:
  1. 72 hours of coursework that is arranged through Gordon College and will be offered in Lynn.
  2. At least 50 hours of advanced mentored experience-you will be assigned a Professional Licensure Coach.
  3. Create a portfolio that reflects the practical application of the learning.
  4. Submit 2 video-taped segments of his/her classroom teaching with a reflective paper (one at the beginning and one at the end of the program).
  5. Participate in 3 classroom observations.
  6. Maintain a journal.

Upon completion of requirements, the candidate will undergo an interview with his/her Professional Licensure Coach as an assessment of his/her knowledge.

Total cost of the program is $2500 which includes coursework
